Garden Basics at iGrow Workshops

Are you interested in growing your own nutritious food but aren’t sure how to start? Sonoma County Regional Parks and iGROW Sonoma are offering a series of low-cost gardening workshops. Learn the basics of designing, planting, maintaining and harvesting a vegetable garden in Sonoma County. Topics include soil care, choosing what to grow, planting techniques, irrigation and other fundamentals. Whether you’re interested in growing vegetables in your backyard or a community garden, these three-part sessions will help you get started. Classes begin in February and March and will be held at gardens in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Sonoma and Petaluma. The sessions will be led by Sara McCamant and Wendy Krupnick, organic farming educators and authors of the iGROW blog, igrowsonoma.org/blog.

There is no cost to attend, but donations of $5 to $20 are welcome. Donations go to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation and the host site. No one will be turned away for a lack of funds. Spanish translation will be available. Children are welcome and can participate in supervised activities while parents attend workshops. For more details, contact County Parks at sonomacountyparks.org or (707) 789-9699. For more information about local gardening resources, visitigrowsonoma.org.
